The Western Chains That Are Popular In Thailand Confused Me

Now, I already knew, courtesy of mrs coffee philosopher, that Sizzler is a pretty fancy place in Thailand.

Yes, that Sizzler. The steakhouse chain that, in America, is completely indistinguishable from every other steakhouse chain is, in Thailand, a pretty cool place to go.

I will say this: their salad bar is pretty awesome.

I’ve already mentioned that 7-11 stores are everywhere and serve the same public function as a rural post office in the twenties.

Also popular: KFC. Yup. KFC. Which, when the coffee philosopher was a young whipper snapper was called ‘Kentucky Fried Chicken.’ Also, we changed channels with knob and used gasoline that was tainted with toxic lead. True story.

Thailand Uses A Lot Of Plastic

Thailand uses a lot of plastic. A lot. Everything comes in a plastic bag. Everything. If you order a Big Gulp and comes in a cup, they will give you a plastic bag to put the cup in. And I name dropped ‘Big Gulp’ because, while I don’t know for certain if that particular practice has reached Thailand, there is certainly a 7-11 on every corner. Seriously. It’s like a post office. People drop off their utility bills there.

Despite the wide use of plastic, there are very few public trash receptacles. The streets are messy, it’s true, but it’s a wonder that they aren’t positively hidden beneath a permanent layer of plastic, which makes me wonder where these bags are going.

In Thailand, They Sometimes Drink Soda Out Of A Plastic Bag

And they always use straws…
