Thailand uses a lot of plastic. A lot. Everything comes in a plastic bag. Everything. If you order a Big Gulp and comes in a cup, they will give you a plastic bag to put the cup in. And I name dropped ‘Big Gulp’ because, while I don’t know for certain if that particular practice has reached Thailand, there is certainly a 7-11 on every corner. Seriously. It’s like a post office. People drop off their utility bills there.

Despite the wide use of plastic, there are very few public trash receptacles. The streets are messy, it’s true, but it’s a wonder that they aren’t positively hidden beneath a permanent layer of plastic, which makes me wonder where these bags are going.
