Tomorrow’s the big day. A lot of talk about how the leading American candidate is both a longshot and Bob Dylan.
Not sure how I feel about Dylan as a possible recipient. Yes, he’s one of the best lyricists of the last hundred years, but, I don’t know… maybe it’s a bit of the traditionalist in me, but I just don’t buy him as a recipient.
Ten years ago, I’d have said Pynchon was a likely winner, but his last novel seemed kind of ‘meh.’ Similarly, if Delillo failed to win in the couple of years after Underworld then I can’t see it happening. It’s been accepted that Roth will never win (I’ve actually never read him and don’t feel a particularly strong desire to do so).
Actually, I just hope that another poet wins.
